This wasn't a trip for the wealthy. If it was, Sarah never would have been able to come. In fact, she Sarah treasured the opportunity that had been bestowed upon her because most other high schoolers wouldn't get an opportunity like this until college. However, Sarah wasn't just any high school student, she had been able to enroll into college classes because, unfortunately, her school didn't have the higher level calculus courses that she needed. This enabled her to be a part-time university student, even though she still didn't have a high school diploma.

In any case, she had decided to apply for a week-long trip to Japan for a type of student-exchange program. And it was to her luck that she had been accepted!

And now she walking in a group with other college students. The strawberry blonde wallflower followed closely behind the group. Despite the long plane-ride to Japan, Sarah still had yet to meet anyone. There wasn't much to talk to the college students about and they all seemed to have friends of their own...

How could she dream of interjecting herself?

The girl walked dressed casually like a japanese high school student. A short skirt, knee-high socks, a sports jacket and collared shirt. She fit right in, and like many other teenage girls, her eyes were glued to her cell phone. However, Sarah wasn't texting anyone. She was studying.

If I'm at a zoo, I may as well learn the japanese words for all the animals I see...

She nodded.

Kangaru... is Kangaroo... What? Those are almost exactly the same!" Sarah exclaimed. But which came first...?

Sarah pondered, her hand to her chin.

Kangaroos are from Australia, right? Hmm..

I. MUY (B)UENO

Japan. He couldn't believe he was finally here.

When the university had presented him with the chance to be a part of this student exchange program, many months ago, Sigmund had immediately applied for a spot. Having spent an entire day writing a reference letter as to why he felt he deserved to go, the young man had waited an unbearable couple of days before he'd gotten a response: an affirmative and amazing yes. He had cheered in joy so loudly at the news from his home in Belfry Point that some students claimed to have heard him as far as downtown Tower City and the Mithril Forest.

On the budget of a barista, he would have never been able to afford a trip to Japan on his own. But, as it was, this program he had become a part of was covering the expenses for travel and shelter. They covered meals, as well. But, after looking at the somewhat subpar options they had in mind (cheap sushi buffets, no thank you), Sigmund busted his tail at the Café Chatton to earn enough money for authentic cuisine and maybe a souvenir or two. In addition, he had managed to rack in enough tips from work to arrange a trip to the Zony Corporation headquarters. From what he'd heard, the first floor lobby had a museum area of sorts that guests could visit. Choosing between the Studio Ghibli museum and that was rather hard, but he had to go with the one that he one day planned to be a part of.

Today, they were visiting the Ueno Park Zoo as a group. The plane ride the day previous was rather uneventful. Sigmund had played his Vita and read a book about another incomprehensible Lovecraftian entity while some of the other students did their best not to have to utilize their barf bags. The girls that had sat next to him were clearly best friends, as they'd talked to each other practically the whole trip, gabbing about boys they liked and girls they didn't. After hearing some gossip about a girl he knew, he placed his headphones on out of respect and taken a nap. Sigmund didn't know much people at the university still, despite him being a resident of Tower City for months at this point, and no one he knew seemed to be on this trip either. But the few people he did know, well... he definitely didn't want to taint his image of them with a dumb rumor that may or may not have been true.

So he slept. And, when he awoke, he was in the glorious Land of the Rising Sun.

He hadn't slept much in the hotel the day prior due to his excitement. But that absolutely did not deprive him of his customary buoyant energy today. The Ueno Zoological Gardens was, perhaps, one of the loveliest zoo's he had ever been to! And he'd visited the one in San Diego and Los Angeles. Reading the brochure as he trailed along closely behind his group, his happiness shone through his hazel eyes like jewels framed with dirty blonde hair. The 'Gorilla Woods' and 'Tiger Forest' sounded exciting but the pagoda here:

The five-storied pagoda and the tea ceremony house give the zoo a Japanese touch. The pagoda was built in 1631, rebuilt after destruction by fire. In 1958 the owner, Kan'ei-ji temple, gave the pagoda to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, who assigned its management to Ueno Zoo. The tea ceremony house was built to entertain shoguns in the 17th century, and it still stands as a historic structure in the zoo ground.

Well, Sigmund absolutely positively had to go-- oof!

He immediately started to apologize in Japanese when he realized he had bumped into a short girl. "Gomenasai, gomenasai! Honto ni gomen ne!" He said with an obvious American accent, quickly scooping up the brochure he had dropped and then proceeding to bow. Hoping he had done everything right in regards to customs, he kept his bow... then abashedly peeked upwards at the girl standing before him. A slight blush covered his cheeks almost instantly, although he certainly didn't recognize it. Whoever she was-- he couldn't really tell with the Japanese school outfit-- she was really cute. He shared a stare with her for a moment, muttering words beneath his breath he probably didn't even know he was saying. "Tsukiatte kudasai..." Then blinked, shaking his head and straightening in posture once more. Brochure in hand, not even caring that his group was walking further and further away, he embarrassedly smiled. "I mean... sorry. Are you alright?"

He'd switched to English upon the realization that she seemed more American than he thought she was at first glance. With any luck, she didn't know enough Japanese to understand the last phrase he'd muttered. With any luck, she didn't even hear it!

Sigmund simply wouldn't bear the embarrassment...

Huh? Sarah was suddenly pumped by the shoulder which caused her to lose her balance just enough to send her phone flying forward and crashing onto the cement just some feet in front of her. It was a hard crash, and Sarah ran so promptly to her phone to pick it up. She held it tightly in her palm to see a curved line going straight through the center. The phone was no longer on either. She pressed the power button on the left side of the phone. Nothing happened. It was gone. Her phone was gone and it wasn't coming back.

This was a depressing moment for the wallflower book nerd. Perhaps the most depressing moment she'd had in over a year, though it was far from the most traumatic experience.

In any case, Sarah stood in her treks. She looked down at her phone, and then gazed upward at the young blond boy who stood bowing in front of her. He was speaking japanese, a language that was still very foreign to Sarah. She was a math nerd, not a language nerd, unfortunately, despite how nice it would have been to have a grasp of a second language. So she stood there, shocked and unknowing of what to say. Obviously she recognized the boy, they were traveling in the same group. The only thing she didn't know was his name, even though she'd likely heard it before.

"I'm... fine," Sarah answered sheepishly. She wasn't sure how to respond to a classmate who had just rammed into her and broken her phone. As she gazed down at it, she realized her ability to keep in contact with the outside world was now all completely eliminated. The girl released a hearty sigh, clearly expressing some level of depression. This was going to make life difficult, Sarah wasn't exactly the type who garner the courage to ask a compete stranger to use their phone. Nor was she the type who could tell Sigmund that she had broken her phone in the first place.

Sigmund was an oblivious fool a majority of the time. But he'd have to be downright stupid not to notice that the girl with the strawberry blonde hair was disappointed. It wasn't until he followed her gaze that he realized exactly what he had done. His heart sunk at the realization. And, of course, he instantly felt awful about it. "Your phone... is it broken?" Sigmund muttered, taking a step closer and leaning down to examine it with his eyes. "I'm so freakin' sorry." He lamented, running a single hand through his dirty blonde hair as he frowned.

If he hadn't let his excitement get the better of him, if he'd been paying attention, he wouldn't have bumped into her and made her lose her balance. He almost would have preferred the embarrassment of his previous Japanese statement (which had clearly gone under the radar) over this shame he felt now. But, determined to make it right, he shook the thought out of his head and sighed. The solution would cut into his funds for his personal trip to the Zony Headquarters, but he didn't care about that at this point. The only thing that mattered to him was not spoiling some innocent girl's trip just because he'd been careless. He was certainly raised better than that.

"Hey, I know I'm just the idiot who bumped into you and accidentally broke your phone... but how about we tag along with each other through the duration of this zoo visit? I can let you use my phone if you need it and we can go get it fixed somewhere afterwards. You won't have to spend a dime. Or, uh... a yen. Or whatever." He abashedly smiled, leaning slightly forward and trying to make eye contact with her. Clearly, she was rather shy and soft-spoken. He had been, too, once upon a time.

Her phone slipped into her purse as she wasn't going to spend her time complaining about what had just happened. She didn't expect anything from a stranger, even if he was an acquiantance from school. She still didn't know him, so it felt a bit weird to rely upon him for anything. Sarah was perhaps one of the most conservative students around. She always wore long sleeves, and for one reason or another wore corrective glasses that she barely needed in the first place. In any case, the wallflower's first instinct was to deny the help that Sigmund had offered to her, but after a moment of silence she would give her uncertain answer.

"I guess," she muttered weakly.

The girl shrugged her shoulders and slipped her phone into her pocketbook. she wasn't sure what need she'd have for an escort, but now that she had no useful electronics to distract herself with she realized it may have been the best way to ease the boredom.

Embrace a heartbeat and step to it, connect with it, hold it tight, spider web to it-- cause the threads of fate have spun us into each other's lives
She certainly didn't seem all that receptive to Sigmund's attempt to rectify the accident. The blonde barista could tell she was the epitome of meek and mild, and she probably thought she was inconveniencing him. Either that, or she was so fuming mad that she didn't even want to deal with him any longer than she had to. Regardless, Sigmund knew the entirety of the blame was on him and he definitely felt mighty dumb about it. A part of him honestly might have preferred she lashed out at him, and had been somewhat expecting it. But she hadn't. And, because of that, the young man suddenly found himself admiring her kindness and feeling twice as ashamed for his mistake because of it.

He did, of course, sense the hesitation in her words. Although it was selfish in a sense, helping her get her phone fixed as soon as their trip to the zoo was over would definitely ease his guilt. But he also didn't want her to feel like he was imposing anything on her. The way he saw it, anything after this point was entirely in her hands and he would continue giving her the option to stick with it and let him fix her phone or call it a day whenever. With that in mind, he nodded and gave her an apologetic smile.

"Okay, good." He muttered, lightly clapping his hands once as he started to slowly walk backwards in an attempt to continue to lead her on down the zoo's path. Looking over his shoulder to ensure he didn't run into another person, he took note that the coast was clear and their group was far ahead of them. So he continued to face the girl with the short strawberry blonde hair as he matched any step she took forward with one backward. "My name's Sigmund, by the way. I don't think we've met before." The young man certainly would have remembered her if they had, he knew that much. "Are you new to the university?"
